Radio vs Reality

Wednesday I was listening to the rock station here in Calgary.
The two radio hosts addressed two separate news story's.

First they spoke on CFL player Maurice Price's recent tweet referring to his belief that living a homosexual life was against his beliefs as a Christian. (http://www.calgarysun.com/2014/05/12/calgary-stampeders-receiver-maurice-price-tweets-about-michael-sam)

These two radio hosts, Gerry Forbes and Stephen Murray roasted Price not for the language of his tweet, (which left a lot to be desired) for Price also released a official statement which made clear his intention. The two hosts expressed disgust that Price would have these views at all. They expressed his views as "archaic" and Gerry stated "Times have changed, you need to get with the program or get out" The two hosts were in a fit about Prices comments being not only inappropriate but also unrealistic and ignorant. Stephen expressed disgust that its "Price's personal belief as a Christians"

The second story the two hosts discussed, again in the sports world was that of Anderson Cooper's interview of Donald Sterling. I in fact had no idea who Sterling was until hearing the discussion and looking further into the details that afternoon. http://www.cnn.com/2014/05/11/us/donald-sterling-interview/
I heard these two radio personality play clip after clip and lambast this 80 year old man for many things that can be attributed to his age.
Sterling apparently in explaining a situation with the young lady that released unflattering audio of Sterling, asked Anderson if he had ever been jealous over a girl. As most of the world knows Anderson is an outspoken homosexual. Gerry and Stephen apparently feel that Sterling assuming that Anderson is straight is a sign that he is a delinquent old man. The two radio hosts went to air audio bits of Sterling explaining his view on Magic Johnson's extra marital affairs as "setting a bad example for young people" and audio of his view on how Jews and blacks act to fight poverty, I don't know if sterling is a racist or not. But the way that Gerry and Stephen expressed their view on the situation was that this elderly gentlemen has no right to express his views nor due to his age are his opinions valid.

In both news story's these DJ's expressed clearly that they feel that society has no place for the old fashioned views of the aged and those of the Christian faith. The words social acceptable were thrown around a great deal. Gerry even said of Price that he should "Shut his mouth..." that he has no right to express his view on homosexuality publicly (The CFL seems to agree because they are giving him a hefty fine)

Gerry's radio show, which includes Stephen and reddogg is filled with profanity, vulgar jokes and the promotion of unhealthy living. They joke around about female/male gentile, sex, stalking, rape, divorce, drugs and other less then appropriate things. They express to their listeners what they consider to be normal, which mostly involves getting drunk every day/weekend, going to strip clubs, doing cocaine and heroin and sleeping with prostitutes. Then they turn around and express that these two gentlemen are out of line. Its a little more then hypercritical.

My point is this: society as a whole has had a shift the last number of years. Previous generations fought for civil rights and freedom of speech, never envisioning that it would transform into a hybrid of freedom to only speak what is the status quo. previous generations envisioned a future free of racism and freedom of religion. Now we have religious oppression and discrimination of the elderly and a low view of human life.
In our society, its OK to say whatever you want regarding sex, drugs and addiction as long as you are promoting it and not expressing a world view that is contrary to the status quo. I see this clearly in the way these two radio hosts present them selves daily, then turn around a give a scathing rebuke to those that are no where as offensive and obscene as they them selves are. What these two present on a daily basis would never have been acceptable even ten years ago (I was in hot water for much less when I was a radio personality) that fact that it is now thrown upon the public like vomit on a kitten is disturbing, even more disturbing is they have gall to criticize others.
